Pinterest and Desserts.

Happy Monday!

So far, this week is off to a good start. Of course, I was already asking the Mr. about weekend plans by 9am but that's besides the point.

Last night, I hosted a Girl's Night IN that I dearly titled "Pinterest, Desserts and Wine, oh my!". Except we ended up not having any wine because the ladies that accepted weren't exactly wine drinkers. That's okay.

I decided on this pin for my craft of the evening. I love the mason jar glitter look and definitely wanted to add this to the decor in my girl cave.

Of course, there was some prep work involved. Needed to spray paint the jar and allow to dry for a couple hours. So I made sure to do that first thing when we got back from running errands.

As you can see, Gracie supervised my work to make sure everything was going according to plan. Isn't she just the cutest thing ever?

After I painted, I started getting the place ready for guests. I cleaned while the husband prepared the  dessert. We had a little hiccup in the recipe... learned that you can't make chocolate pudding using almond milk. Will remember that for next time. So instead of three layers, there were two. Either way the dessert looked and tasted amazing!

I also bought some mixed fruit and prepared a very easy fruit dip (two ingredients: cream cheese and marshmellow fluff) for my health conscience friends.

After satisfying my sweet tooth, I finished off the rest of my Pinterest craft. Here is the final look.

Love how they turned out. Super cute!

However, I have one minor complaint and I guess I should have known better. This gets glitter EVERY WHERE! Like I have to make sure I find a spot and it stays put. You may or may not be able to see the glitter sprinkled around the jar. That wasn't intentional.

Style: Black Flats

Okay, I am in the market for black flats for work. I have a pair of Michael Kors that I got for a really good price (after red clearance combined with a coupon), except those shoes have silver details. I have this OCD about wearing them when I wear gold jewelry. Yes, I notice these things. And yes, I know that mixing metals is trendy, but in this way, I don't like to mix metals. I have a pair of plain black flats with no details, but they are starting to come to the end of its life.

I started looking online for options and first came across a pair of black flats from Michael Kors that I like but not necessarily the price. After a little more searching, I found a pair of Liz Claiborne's that are practically dups for the MK's at half the price anddddd they have gold details. #win

How exciting?! Of course, I haven't found them in store so I may need to order online. Either way, I count this as a success.

Blue Skies.

It is a beautiful day today.

Weather is in the 70s.

Blue skies.

My view today while working from home.

Beautiful right? If you look closely to the top left, you can see an airplane in the sky and the reflection in the water. Makes me sad that I have to be stuck indoors working when I want to be outside enjoying the weather!

I was able to get out for a moment during lunch to go to the bank. Thought it was a perfect day to stop by the Panera across the street and grab a mid-day treat.

These things are so yummy. Exploding with calories. But that's okay. It's not often that I have it.

Happy Tuesday!

Style: Leg Wear

This weekend I did some shopping for some new leg wear. With my recent weightloss, I only had one pair of jeans and one pair of work pants that fit. The jeans better than the work pants because they are fairly new. There is nothing more disappointing than wearing clothes that just don't fit you right and are unflattering.

A couple weeks ago, I cleared out all clothes that were too big for me to take to goodwill. Well, they are still sitting in the closet but they are separated from everything else. Mental Note: Need to take those to Goodwill this week. Needless to say, I have a lot of empty space in my closet and now need to start restocking. My goal right now is to get new leg wear (jeans and dress pants).

Last week, I bought two pairs of Columnist pants from Express. They had a buy one get one 50% off sale going on and I had a get $25 off when you spend over $75. I was able to score two pairs of pants (black and dark grey) for the price of one. #win

This week they had a storewide 40% off and I went ahead and ordered another pair of light grey pants. I was going to get another pair as well but they didn't have the color I wanted in my size. Boo.

Then New York & Co. had this buy one get one free on all pants and jeans sale going on. I tried on the dress pants but they just weren't looking right on me. So I tried on their jeans and ended up getting two pairs.

Yes, both dark wash jeans. I prefer dark wash over light. They look similar in the images above, however, one has a beige fade to it where as the other is more blue.

One I had to order and have shipped because they didn't have my size. #shortpeopleproblems Good thing they also had free shipping that day.

All in all, I think that I've been quite successful with my goal. Can't wait for the pants to arrive!

Celebrating Love.

Be advised, I made sure to take lots of pictures! Be prepared for picture overload.

This weekend was just what the doctor ordered for me after the not so great week I had last week. The husband kicked off the Valentine's weekend with a pre-celebration Thursday evening when I got home. He had a rose and a tray of chocolated covered strawberries (my fave!) that he made waiting for me. Silly that I am, I forgot to take a picture of the presentation he did because I was too busy scarfing down the strawberries!

On Friday evening, we kept it very casual. We knew it would be crazy busy at the restaurants etc because of the occassion. My special request for the evening was to have a heart shaped pizza from Papa John's. Cheap date. We then made a dessert run to Don Pan and brought our dessert home to enjoy with a glass of Rosa Regale (another fave!).

The next day I spent the morning, sipping some coffee while reading some blogs and snuggling with my little cuddlebug. She was freshly bathed so she was extra cuddly.

That afternoon the husband had a little surprise, which he may have accidentally given away right before while talking. Hehe. He planned a tea date at my fave tea room. He knows how to make me happy. We enjoyed some tasty scones, mini sandwiches and dessert with our tea. The tea, by the way, was delicious! It is called Strawberry Kiss and is a black tea with strawberry and chocolate. Umm. HELLO? Could it get any better? Needless to say, the Mr. bought a tin of that tea to have at home along with the sugar we used. Too excited to have some at home!

That evening we had tickets to go watch Once at the theater in downtown. Prior to this, I had never heard of this show which apparently was a movie and book. Who knew? The storyline is based in Ireland, about a guy and girl who meet and she encourages him to make music and go after his love in New York. The music was AMAZING! Just purchased the soundtrack.

It was also different from other shows I have seen because they actually allowed people to go up on the stage prior to show beginning then during the show to get drinks. You can see the crowd on stage in the picture. I was a little hesitant at first because of this set up but was very pleased with the show and definitely recommend to all you show-goers!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

This Week.

TGIF.

Honestly, this week has been a long and not so great week for me. I feel like my person and character has really been tested at work. I haven't felt this way in a long time and I realize it's because the group I work with now is a younger group of people. In my previous role, I worked with an older group and I just feel that they had more respect for their colleagues and weren't as catty. Although I feel, at times, I can relate more with my new group, I do experience some nuances that I wouldn't have with the previous group.

So what happened this week you are probably asking... Well, one scenario... I was pretty much grilled for my political view. First of all, politics should not be discussed at work. This is actually a rule at work because it's a sensitive subject where some people have very strong views and can make things uncomfortable, real quick. I know because that is what happened to me. What's crazy is that the discussion started being about weather on a news channel and transitioned to politics. Yes. Quite a jump. Oh also, my credibility (not sure if that's the right word) for being Latina was criticized. Needless to say, I did not let the conversation continue. I simply smiled and continued my work, even though down on the inside I wanted to battle it out. It's just not professional and shouldn't happen in the work place.

Then to end of that day, I was stuck in traffic due to weather and took me 2.5 hours to get home! For some reason, people here forget how to drive when there is rain. Thank goodness we don't get snow. It would be a game over for us.

My week also included:
  • Being questioned for liking pink. Not by just one person, but several. Who knew that the fact that I own things in pink would put me on the hot seat? Really people? Get over it.
  • Oh also, having the team talk about me because of a review I did on their documentation. Excuse me for my use of correct grammar and formatting. You know, it's one thing to talk about a person when they are not around. Not nice but it happens. It's another to be near that person and acknowledge it by saying "Oh she is probably hearing us talk about her.."
Hello, high school all over again.

Needless to say, I am really happy it's Friday AND Valentine's Day weekend! I was welcomed home last night with a rose, chocolate covered strawberries and new charm to add to my charm bracelet. So nice, to come home to the arms of the one you love.... it makes everything better.

Happy Valentine's Day you all!

Top 10 (Career) Reads

I follow Levo League on both Facebook and Twitter, and they recently posted an article of a list of ten career books that every young woman should read. As you probably know from previous posts, I enjoy reading self help books, if you will, so clicked on the link to see this list.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the book I am currently ready right now to be one of them, Knowing Your Value. Some of the other books I recognized such as Nice Girls Don't Get The Corner Office, which the Women's Affinity at my office have read this book as a group and have had happy hours to discuss. The other one I recognized was Bossy Pants by Tina Fey. I've heard reviews about that and have it on my Amazon wishlist. I was happy when I came across this list and thought I would share.

Conference Call in Real Life

The husband showed me this video a couple weeks ago and I thought it was hilarious! Mainly because it is so true! I have hosted and participated in many conference calls and can't even tell you how many times I have experienced all of those scenarios. Seeing it put in this perspective makes it even more ridiculous and hysterical.

These guys did a great job. If you haven't seen their Laughing video, you must take a minute to watch as well! Enjoy!

Weekend Shopping Finds

Hello friends! It's Monday, and I am not ready for it. Boo.

Enough of that. This weekend we had some crazy foggy misty action going on here in the Sunshine State. Felt like we were in Seattle for a moment. Thanks to the crappy weather, the only fun thing to do was shop! Hey, that's okay in my book.

We did some shopping for the home. Got some chairs from IKEA for the dining room table and a ghost chair for my office. I am very pleased with how everything is coming along. Slowly. But it's getting there.

While we were out and about, I decided I wanted to stop by Kohls. I received a gift card from there during Christmas and just did not have the chance to go over there. Since I've lost quite a bit of weight (20 LBS!!!) I have been in desperate need of clothes! Particularly clothes for work. Figured that was the best opportunity to do a little shopping with the giftcard. I got two button down collered shirts which was great. But what I am most happiest about is this beauty!!!

Totally unplanned. I was just walking around and from a distance I saw it and had to have it. Normally, its $70 but I got it for $40. SWEET! I love the stripes! So chic and reminds me Kate Spade. The inside is has a divider and side pockets, making this OCD girl very happy.

Then today, I ran over to Ulta to use my coupon and found these nail polishes. I knew that Carrie Underwood was doing a collaboration with Nicole by OPI and tried searching earlier but had no success. Until now.

I didn't want to be that person that buys the whole collection, so I chose my top two faves, Sweet Daisy and Carnival Cotton Candy. Who am I kidding? I am probably gonna go get more.

Now back to the grind!
