Blog-tember Challenge: Day 20 | Guilty Pleasures

I am a die hard Twilight fan. #teamEdward When I was first introduced to Twilight, back when the movie came out, I would scoff at those people that were obsessed with a "vampire/wolf" movie. Did not care to hear about it. Then one day, I was bored at home flipping through on-demand and saw that Twilight was available to order and nothing else was appealing, so I gave it a shot. After watching the movie, I told my friends that the story wasn't that bad. The acting however.... Honestly, the next day my friend brought me the book to read and the rest was history. I read the four books in a week and a half. That was unheard of in my life. Any time a movie premiered in theaters, my girlfriends would make a night of it. I have a Twilight playlist on my iTunes. If this movie is on TV, I am glued to it.

Cute office supplies/stationary. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have a slight obsession. It seriously makes me so happy to see cute office supplies and stationary. Office Depot is my "toy store" and I can easily spend an hour there. I love to follow IGers that post cute stationary stuff.

Retail therapy. I love shopping. It used to be really bad when I was younger because it led me to have some pretty bad credit card debt. After I worked hard to pay that debt off, I've learned to shop responsibly.

Sweets. This is a weakness of mine. My sweet tooth can get the best of me sometimes.

Novelas (spanish soap operas). I watched my first novela (Dos Mujeres Un Camino) back when I was in elementary school. I would watch novelas, drink cafe con leche and eat Vicky crackers. Truth be told, this is really how I learned spanish. Growing up I was always watching novelas. For a while I stopped watching them because they started being too cheesy and silly. I like the more serious kinds, especially those based in older time periods like Amor Real and Pasion.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 19 | The Best Day Ever

March 27, 2011.

The day I made a promise to this man, in front of our closest family and friends, that I would do life with him forever. That day was everything I could have wanted and more. We had both the ceremony and reception at this Inn that had the vintage look and feel we were wanting for our wedding.

Since that perfect day, life with him has been full of laughter and fun. Seriously, he makes marriage easy. I am one lucky gal.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 17 | Latest Obsession

Guys, I have fallen hard, head over heels, for Kate Spade everything. I may peruse the website on a daily basis and swoon over many of the items there. My wishlist is never ending...

I recently went to the outlet and purchased a purse for the Fall.

So happy I went with this purse because I was torn between a couple of them. I knew I wanted something that wasn't as structured and I wanted a crossbody. The wide strap makes it so comfortable to carry!

Can we talk about the collab with Anna Kendrick? I so enjoy these little videos she makes!

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 16 | Real vs Online

For me, what you see is what you get. This is both online and in person. I don't pretend to be someone that I'm not. I am past that stage in my life of trying to be the person that someone wants me to be. That's exhausting. I have grown to be happy and proud for the person that I am. In the end, that is what matters.

Now do I share everything about my life on the internet? No. For several reasons...

One, I am a private person. There are things that I don't share with many except for close family/friends. I am not that person that posts a status update on Facebook every two hours. Just, no.

Two, once it's on the internet, it stays on the internet. Not that I have much to hide but don't ever think that employers or other people don't search for you on the online space. They do.

Three, there can be some shady people out there. I am not going to divulge enough details that some random person can track me down. Nuff, said.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 15 | What's in my (work) bag?

Michael Kors Bag - When I got my promotion, I decided to reward myself with a "nice" bag. I purchased this bag from the Michael Kors outlet and it has worked great for me. I am able to fit my laptop and other essentials easily. The material is durable and easy to clean. The wide straps help not to cut the circulation in my arms when carrying everything around. Also, the side compartments help me to easily organize some of my smaller items.

Notebook - I am a write things down person. I always like to carry a notebook to meetings and have something to jot down notes if on a call.

Pencil Case - This is just a makeup bag from Victoria's Secret that I am using to store smaller "tech" items such as mouse, ear phones, cables, etc.

Work Badge

Kate Spade Wallet and Business Card Holder (Always good to have your business cards with you!)

Hand lotion/Dior Lipgloss/Extra Gum/iPhone 5/Swarovski Pen/Work Laptop

(Not shown in picture) Planner - I am currently using this planner. It's the collab of The Day Designer with Blue Sky Planners that was available at Target. I love that each day has an hourly schedule and a to-do list. Type A's dreams come true!

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 14 | Five Books

I've read these five books at some point in my life and they are books that I have made some impact on me.

The Purpose Drive Life - I read this book years ago and remember that it was such an inspirational book. I actually think I should re-read it again.

The Total Money Makeover - I recommend this book to any adult. So important to be financially responsible and understand how to wisely manage your money.

The Five Love Languages - If you are in a relationship, I highly recommend this book. The Mr. and I read this book together and it really helped us understand how each us show and receive love.

Lean In - As a young female professional, this book was so encouraging and enlightening. I took away so many tidbits from this book and have put it into practice in my career.

Unbroken - This is probably the only non-self help book in the list. The older I get, the more I want to learn and read about history. This book stirred so many emotions in me while reading it. I have so much respect for those who fought and continue to fight for our country and our freedom.

Currently | September 2015

It's a gloomy rainy day today. Ducks are enjoying it.

LISTENING | I've been listening to a rock station on the radio and heard this song, "Handlebars" by Flobots. Honestly, I thought it was a new song but apparently it's old. I really like it!

READING | I recently finished reading Quiet by Susan Cain. Will be doing a review soon. It was a very research filled book and I wanted to read something easy. I am currently reading Serafina and the Black Cloak. My friend told me about this book, about a girl that lives in the basement of the Biltmore with her father. It's a kids book which has been made it very easy to read.

WATCHING | Confession. I watch novelas (spanish soap operas). I am currently watching Lo Imperdonable. I think it is starting to get to the end and it is getting good!

WANTING | To move into our new home! We closed on our house this week and I am anxious to move in. I can't wait to start decorating for the holidays!

EATING | I discovered the Limited Edition Apple Pie Thomas English muffins and they are DELICIOUS! This has been my breakfast of choice for the past few weeks. I will toast them, put some peanut butter and then slice bananas.

DRINKING | Tall Vanilla Latte from Starbucks.

DOING | Quite a bit of work travel. Last night I was in Orlando for a work conference. I was hosting a breakfast this morning with another colleague. Tomorrow I take off to Atlanta for another work event and will be there until Tuesday. While I love going to these events, I HATE having to fly. I am not looking forward to the flight.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 11 | Friday Night In

Let's be real with ourselves. Every Friday night is a night in for me and the Mr. Going out on a Friday evening is rare for us.

My normal Friday evenings looks something like this...

I have every intention of logging off work at 4:30, but doesn't usually happen until 5:30ish or later. Walk my rear end over to the couch and lay there like a blob while my wonderful husband is in the kitchen cooking dinner. We eat dinner around 6ish and then I go back and do a little more work cause the fun don't stop. Around 7ish, we will change into our workout clothes and go to the gym or for a bike ride. Get back from the gym, have a snack and take a shower. Then spend the rest of the evening relaxing on the couch either catching up on shows/novelas or reading a book. By 10 o'clock we are in bed.

I know. Wild Friday night. But honestly, after a long work week, a quiet evening is just what I need.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 10 | Bucket List (Fall Edition)

I created a bucket list a while back which you can read here. While going through the list, I realized that I've only accomplished a few. That's kind of a fail. I am pretty sure I will be marking some of those items off very soon!

I thought for this post, I would do my annual Bucket List (Fall Edition). You can see my previous ones here and here.

As you will probably notice, there is a pumpkin trend. I wasn't kidding when I said in my favorite season post that one of my favorites things about the season is pumpkin EVERYTHING. #sorrynotsorry

I can't wait to get started on this list!

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 9 | Dear 16 year old Me

Dear 16 year old me,

Let me start off by saying that being an adult isn't all it's hyped up to be. Responsibility takes on a whole new meaning. Homework and cleaning up your room is icing comparison to a full time job and bills. Yes, not having to be under the dictatorship authority of mom, is a huge perk once older, but in due time grasshopper.

Enjoy being young where your primary responsibility is doing good in school. Not that you did bad in school, but you could definitely put a little more effort than you have been. Homework at your age may seem like such a waste of time, but once you're in college, and only the mid-term and final make up your grade, you will be begging for the professor to assign homework for more points!

Get involved. Now that you are no longer in band (good move), take that extra time to get involved in other extracurricular activities. Sports? Yeah, tried that and let's not put yourself through that embarrassment again.Your English teacher was on to something when she suggested you go on that field trip to the Tampa Tribune office. Try getting involved in the newsletter club or yearbook club... you may learn that you actually enjoy that type of stuff. May also help you once in college and trying to decide on a major.

Jesus > boys. School > boys. Friends > boys. I know that at your age, it seems like having a boyfriend will make you happy. It won't. Trust me. It is so important to get to know who YOU are, not what somebody wants you to be. First learn to be happy with yourself, and then you will learn to be happy with someone else. What you think you want in a boyfriend/husband at your age, is very much the opposite once older. I will let you in on a secret... you actually have a thing for nerds. ;) Don't be blinded by the idea of falling in love and marrying your high school sweetheart. It will take you down a path that you will wish you hadn't.

Never too early to start living a healthy lifestyle of eating right and exercising. Oh and those weekly visits to Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts, evening scoops of ice cream and dem delicious Otis Spunkenmeyer chocolate chip cookies in the snack line (cue mouth watering) need to slow down. Your sugar indulgence will bite you in the butt once you're older. Build good habits now.

I write all these lessons because it's often that I think... what if? If I had made some different choices, such as my advice above, where would I be now? But truth is, you did good. Yes, you had some hiccups along the way. Life knocked you down once or twice (or more), but you got up, dusted your shoulders and kept going. You didn't let it defeat you even when there were times that you wanted to give up. You are a fighter. Don't stop fighting for your happiness. If you don't, who will?

Sincerely,
Your 31 year old self

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 8 | Favorite Season

Fall is, hands down, my favorite season. The crisp cool air. The changing colors of the foliage. The cinnamon and nutmeg smells of candles that fill the home. Scarves and boots. Pumpkin everything.

*sigh*

Makes me smile just thinking about the season.

Unfortunately, living in Florida, I don't get to really enjoy this season. It's definitely one of the things I miss the most about living up north. There are some things that I can still do here in the south but definitely not the same when it's blazing hot outside. For example, wearing boots and scarves when it's 90 degrees outside does not work. As a compromise for living here, the Mr. and I do our best to plan road trips north to enjoy the cooler weather and see the changing colors of leaves.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 7 | The Current Confidential

When I started this blog, I wanted a way to document my journey in pursuit of my happiness in both my personal and professional life. I hoped that, at the same time of me having my little space on the internet where I can write and express myself, I could serve as a mentor or inspire other ladies in this thing called life.

I would like to build this blog and brand, so while thinking about a title, I knew I wanted something that I could grow with regardless of what stage I was in my life. I tossed around the idea of using my name, but I am a little finicky about my name on the internet. Plus, I didn't like how my name looked and sounded for a blog title.

I wanted the name to be chic and sophisticated. I remember tossing a whole bunch of names but landed on The Current Confidential. My story and this blog will always grow and change and I thought this title fit it.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 6 | My Work Style

For this post, I thought I would focus on my work style. I work in a corporate office environment where the dress code is business casual. I'm a firm believer that you should dress the part that you want. I want to continue to move up in my career and I want my leaders to see that. Of course, in addition to dressing the part, there are other factors such as work ethic and other job skills that play a key part in job promotions. But how you dress is so important!

I'm pretty conservative in my style. My style icon is Kate Middleton.

Seriously, the girl could no wrong in my book. I may be easily swaded to buy a dress that reminds me of something she would wear.

I threw together a couple outfits that would be typical of what I would wear.

I've come to love wearing dresses because they make my mornings easy! Throw on a dress, pumps and accessories, done. I don't do a lot walking during the day, but the older I get, comfort starts to be greater than fashion. For shoes, if I wear pumps, I stick to smaller heels, or I do wedges. No platform shoes. Honestly, I feel like platform shoes is more appropriate for a girls night out versus office. That's just me.

As for accessories, I have a slight obsession with pearls. I have so many pearl earrings, necklaces, and bracelet. Again, classic look. But, I do like statement necklaces. If I am wearing something simple, I will add a statement necklace or earrings. I buy the majority of mine at the Loft outlet. I can find such great deals there.

I typically shop at the outlet mall for clothes. My fave stores are Ann Taylor, The Loft, Banana Republic. When not at the outlet mall, I will go to TJMaxx, Marshalls, and JCPenney. Funny enough. All the dresses above I found on H&M's website. Thinking I need to pay a visit there some time soon!

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 5 | iTunes Ten

When it comes to music, I enjoy pretty much all genres. I think the only one that I don't really fancy is heavy metal.

Now, before I list the first ten on shuffle, let me pre-face with I only have a few playlists on my phone. Worship, Twilight (yes, I have a playlist with Twilight music, don't judge), Workout, and Purchased. I used to have all my music on my phone and it was taking up too much space which prevented me from doing the system upgrades. I removed quite a few playlists and just left a few. So, you will notice some repetition of albums.

We Will Run | Jesus Culture
Phantom of the Opera (Junior's Dance Radio Mix) | The Phantom of the Opera Movie Soundtrack
Blown Away | Carrie Underwood
Go All The Way (Into the Twilight) | Perry Farrell - The Twilight Movie Soundtrack
Up N' Down | Britney Spears
Flightless Bird, American Mouth | Iron & Wine - The Twilight Movie Soundtrack
One Way Ticket | Carrie Underwood
She is a Diamond | Michael Cerveris - Evita Broadway Soundtrack
Plus Que Ma Prope Vie | Carter Burwell - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 Soundtrack
The Music of the Night | The Phantom of the Opera Movie Soundtrack

Lots of soundtracks! The Mr. and I like to go to Broadway shows and I always end up getting the soundtrack. I've been a Britney fan since my high school days. Carrie Underwood is my girl! Jesus Culture is one of my fave worship groups. I would love to attend one of their concerts in person one day.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 4 | Jesus & Church

Confession. As I begin to write this post, I have a bit of conviction because I realize that a lot of the things I am passionate about, I don't do.

My faith and relationship with Jesus is truly important to me even though, shamefully, it isn't always the priority that it should be. But finally getting back to the church routine has helped re-kindled that desire in me which I needed! I think now, more than ever, where the Christian church and faith is really being persecuted for our beliefs, is it so important to truly draw closer to Him.

From the age of seven, I always went to church and once I was hit middle school, I was always involved in ministries. Drama. Worship. Youth. Hospitality. Events. I loved being able to use the gifts that the Lord gave me to further the His ministry. Oh how I miss being involved! This is definitely something I am excited about and hope to start getting involved as soon as I can.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 3 | Blog Inspiration Board

Here are some things you will probably see on the blog...

Marriage, Gracie Lou & Addie Mae, Food/Dessert, Road Trips/Travel, Book Reviews, Party Planning, Jewelry/Accessories/Fashion, Beauty, Faith, Office Supplies/Stationary

Brave Love Blog

Online Wishlist.

I am not one for online shopping. Call me old school, but I don't always trust the internet. Plus, I like being able to see the item I am purchasing, especially if it's clothing or shoes. I am okay, if it's a store like Express or The Loft where I can try it in store and purchase online if they don't have my size.

Also, I feel like online shopping is like a pandora's box that I shouldn't open. It would be too easy to get carried away shopping in the convenience of your couch. Particularly for me, when I am in need of retail therapy.

However, thanks to IG... I have come across quite a few goodies from online shops that I have been wishing on for quite some time. I think I've added a couple of these to my Christmas wishlists, in the past, and forget that I am married to someone that is just as paranoid as I am about online shopping. Ha.

I am realizing that if I am ever going to get it, I will have to take the plunge and do it myself. So here are some items on my list...

(link)

The original white Elle Est Forte (She is strong) tee. This is based off the Proverbs 31:25 verse "She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future".

(link)

I have a slight obsession with donuts. Can't tell you how many times I've been able to get my colleagues to bring in donuts to the office. My team knows... I will take donuts in exchange for work favors.

I showed this to the Mr. and was like, this is all you need to do.

(link)

Speaking of donuts... this mug. I must have. I love that print. Would actually like to get a paper print to frame and put in my office.
(link)

The Love Is tee by the Walk in Love group. One can never have enough inspirational tees.

(link)

Okay, little secret. I just pre-ordered this cozy. It's just too cute not too have. I was actually eyeing this on the site for some time now because it was sold out. Had to jump at the chance when it became available.

Again, thank you IG for opening this new world to me. My bank account and husband will be forever indebted to you.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day 2 | My Ideal Day

Let me start off by saying, I am an introvert and truly love being home. When I think of my ideal day, gotta be honest with you, not much people interaction involved. People can be exhausting sometimes. I'm sure some of you can relate to this.

Morning
Wake up - NO ALARM CLOCK. Can I get an amen? I'm a morning person, so I usually naturally get up around 7:30/8. Enjoy a cup of joe while I have some quiet time (read my devotional/prayer time). Make some breakfast. I'm a creature of habit, so it would probably be my usual oatmeal with bananas and walnuts. Then eat my breakfast while reading the latest posts from my favorite blogs and news articles. Actually work on a blog post. After I've had some time to digest my food, I would get ready to go to the gym. After my workout, I would come back home, wash up and have my morning snack. Tidy up around the house and get ready for the day.

Afternoon
Meet a friend for lunch. Run any errands needed while I am out of the house. Come back and get dinner started.

Evening
Have dinner with the Mr. Clean up the kitchen. Feed the pups and take them for a good walk. Then the rest of the time would consist of spending time with the Mr., watching our fave TV shows or reading.

The above is actually what I usually do on a day off from work. To me, it's so rejuvenating when I get a day off and can do this routine. I always think to myself, if only I could win the lotto and could do this every day.

Raise the Bar for Yourself | Nora Wu

My colleague shared this video with our team the other day. It's a TED Talk of the Global Human Capital leader for PwC, Nora Wu. I finally had the chance to watch it last night and loved hearing her story.

To hear that she surpassed her parents expectations of being a factory worker to being a global leader for a big firm is admirable. I love these types of stories. It just proves that one, with hard work and determination, you can achieve the unexpected, and two, it's never too late to start dreaming.

I hope you enjoy the video as much I did.

Blog-tember Challenge: Day1 | Introducing Me

Brave Love Blog

I came across this challenge from another blogger on my reading list and thought it would be fun to do and give me some blog post ideas! Here it goes...

The name is Vicky. I am 31 years old (I shiver every time I think of my age). Happily married to Sergio, whom I typically refer to as 'Mr.' here on the blog. Proud mama to two fur babies - Gracie Lou and Addie Mae. Long haired doxies who are entirely too spoiled (thanks to the Mr). No human babies yet. While I love kids, I haven't been in any rush to have some of my own! Perhaps thanks to working in a daycare for five years while in high school/college. But maybe in the next year or two....

I am the typical Floridian... born in Ohio and moved to Florida at the age of 12, when my mother remarried. Rare to find Floridians that are native to the state. With that being said, I don't care for hot weather or beaches. My happy place is in cooler weather near the mountains. One day I hope to move to somewhere in North Carolina. #lifegoals

I work in the Human Resources department for a Big 4 firm as a Global Mobility Specialist. What is that, you ask? Basically, I manage the relocation of our staff for their international assignments - both inbound and outbound. The job is very rewarding and exhausting at the same time. Being that I work with people all over the world, while I am sleeping, they are working and needless to say, my inbox is never empty when I get to work. But, at the same time, I get to interact with people of different cultures and hear different accents which makes the job fun. Love dem Brits!

I have an unhealthy obsession with office supplies. Back to School is probably one of my favorite times of the year, right up there with Christmas, because of the full abundance of supplies in all stores! #talknerdytome

Other things that tickle my fancy include: Starbucks Vanilla Lattes, Kate Spade, Donuts, High Tea, Gilmore Girls, Broadway shows, Holidays, Twilight (yes, #teamCullen) and Party Planning!

Over the Weekend.

Saturday morning, it was gloomy but no rain so we took advantage of that to be outdoors. Mr. Sun even made an appearance while we were out which was nice.

After running some errands that morning, I went and treated myself to a Vanilla Latte and pedi. A couple months ago, work was wearing me out - long hours, lots of meetings/emails, etc - that I needed a way to have some me time, in order to not lose my sanity. So, I started getting pedis. It's great. Of course, this last I went, the lady next to me had her daughter with her who felt the need to sit in between our chairs and talk the. whole. time. It was awesome. Totally killed my relaxation buzz. Grr.

Excited to start transitioning into fall colors. I went with this orange color, don't remember the name. Actually looks a bit more redder on my toes than I wanted but still like it.

Sunday morning, we went to church. The Mr. and I unintentionally matched. How sweet. Of course, I needed to take a picture of it.

After church, we went out for lunch. Mr.'s choice. Leave it to him to take me to some diner joint. When we first pulled up to the location, not going to lie, I was a little hesitant. Let's just say, it's not in the greatest part of town. But, the good sport that I am, still went inside. This place is straight up diner and it was pretty busy! I caught a break where there weren't as many people seated, but I assure you those seats at the bar filled up. When we left, the entrance was packed with people waiting to get a seat.

Our server was great. Food was good. I kinda wish I had gotten breakfast instead of lunch. Maybe next time... but that probably won't be anytime soon. Ha.

I chose dessert. Ol' Yogurt Mountain. Birthday Cake yogurt, strawberries, and cheesecake bites. Yum!

The rest of the day it stormed. So we spent the evening at home relaxing.

And here we are, back to the work grind. Counting down the days until the weekend...
