Kid President - Socktober

Have you heard of Kid President? Funniest kid ever.

I heard a snip-it of this video below on the radio the other day and laughed at some of the things mentioned in it.

I am part of that "150 million people post pictures of food on their instagram"statistic.

Oh, the number of people following Miley Cyrus on Twitter. Really people? Sad.

I at least have of some hope for our future when you have little ones like Kid President bringing awareness to our reality in country and world and trying to make a difference. #socktober

Office Inspiration Board

Okay, I am really excited about this post! We have a third bedroom which has really had no purpose and accumulating junk for the past couple years. Our plan was that it would be the baby room whenever we had our baby. Since we are not ready to have a little one of our own, the Mr and I both agreed there was no point in just letting the third room go to waste. So ,we are going to make it my Office/Craft room or as I like to put it my "Girl Cave". I am thrilled to have my own little creative space and can't wait for it to be done!

I've been stalking and pinning away on Pinterest and getting ideas of what I want this room to look like. I want it to be girly, chic, and relaxing. I am excited to have an area that I can freely make girly without any concerns that I am living with a male. Throughout the house I have tried to keep it more neutral and not use any pink because its not just my place. But there are no considerations going on in this room. Especially since the Mr. has his own office that is very much masculine.

I put together a little inspiration board to capture all the little details I have liked during my pinning and searching to have a better visual of my plan for the room. I have fallen in love and we have barely started the project! Goal is to have it done before the end of the year.

Wall Color: The color of the walls are going to be Valspar Oat Bran. I love this color. This is the color in our Master Bed/Bath and Guest Bathroom on the second floor. I actually want to paint the whole house this color once we've completed some other things in the house. I decided to stick to this color because I figured a neutral color would make the change into baby room easy when that day comes. I plan on having neutral color walls in the baby room so its perfect.

Accent Colors: Blush Pink. White/Ivory. Black. Gold.

Curtains: For the wall with the windows, I want to paint wide horizontal stripes similar to this. Since I will have all that going on on that wall, I want to put simple white curtains. These are from JCP the Martha Stewart collection.

Lighting - I go back and forth about putting a chandelier type fixture such as this in room because I need to have a ceiling fan here in Florida. So I am still undecided if I will definitely switch to a light fixture, but if I do this is a definite candidate.

Desk - The Liatorp from IKEA is the fave of many bloggers. I checked it out in person and love it.

Mirrors - I want to have a large floor mirror in the room but would also like to have smaller ones for accent such as these from Target.

Owls - These little guys are just lovely. Would love to place them either on a book shelf or some other piece of furniture I may get.

Dress Form - For some reason, I really like these things. I am not sure why or when I started liking them but I do. This one is from PB Teen and would make the perfect addition in one of the room corners.

Dachshund Book Ends - This is an obvious. When I saw them on Z Gallerie's website I knew they had to me mine. Need to make sure to purchase them before they are gone!

Pink Peonies - I would like to have a small floral arrangement of pink peonies on my desk. They are pretty, girly, and just the perfect touch pink.

Here are a few of the rooms that have been my muses while creating my inspiration board for this room.

I will make sure to provide a before/after post when it's all done. Stay tuned!

Five on Friday

1. Cooler Weather

Hello cool weather! We have FINALLY broke out of the high 80's low 90's temperatures!! I walk out the door the other morning and was greeted with the crisp fall air. Made me so happy. Hopefully, it is not shortlived and stays here for a while.

2. Cornfusion Maze

I have to tell ya'll. We have been doing a pretty good job with checking things off my Fall bucket list. This Saturday we are going to a Corn Maze/Fall Festival and I am excited! Last year we wanted to go do this and ended up not going because we kept holding off to go with friends. Yeah, not this year. We planned a date and invited peeps, and told ourselves we were going with or without. Well, we have some friends going with us and I can't wait to go and have a good time!

3. Reign

Have you seen it? I've only seen the pilot for this show and I am already a big fan. Keeping my fingers crossed that it gets good ratings and the CW takes it full on for a season.

4. Fall Road Trip

This Mr., Gracie and I are heading off for our Fall Road Trip soon. Wish us luck that we planned correctly and get to see some Fall foliage!

5. Job Tour

It's official. When I return from my vacation, I will be starting my job tour! Holy smokes! I can't believe its really happening. I am too excited to start this tour and can't wait to blow the socks off these people!

Gen Y Women

Saw this, the other day, posted on an online discussion board at work and found it interesting since I fall in this demographic. I wanted to share here and also have it to easily refer back too.

I can definitely agree and relate to some of these areas. Minus the children part. Clearly, I am an outlier for that statistic.

Book Review: My Beloved World

Got around to finishing this book this past weekend. I was off to a good start but, honestly, towards the end I slacked off a little because that is the point in her life where she is already practicing law. It was a reminder of how becoming a lawyer was definitely not my dream job. In high school, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer, at least my parents always told me that I would make a good lawyer because I always fought til the end of each argument. But after a couple of high school classes of Law Studies and Court Procedures, I realized it was not my cup of tea.

However, during the first half of the book I was really intrigued and inspired by her story. I wouldn't say that I was ever a huge Sonia Sotomayor follower before, so obviously didn't know much of her past. Only knew that she was the first Latina to become a Supreme Court justice. #proudLatina

After reading about her life... her childhood, where she grew up, the loss of her father at a very young age, her chronic disease - She did not let those struggles deter from pursuing her dream. I admire her drive to go to school, get good grades, and achieve what at that time seemed impossible... get into Princeton then go to Yale Law. I mean, wow, what an accomplishment.

I have a new respect for Sotomayor. She is a prime example, that just because you grow up in lower class and may not have the same opportunities as others doesn't mean you can't dream big. If only we could all think that way and have that same drive to succeed, how different would this world be?

Now, I leave you with a video of an interview with her. Enjoy.

Style: Riding Boots

I believe it's no surprise that a staple item for fall and every gals closet are a nice pair of boots. A fall outfit isn't complete until you've got the perfect pair of boots. I have a couple pairs of boots that I have collected over the years but I have yet to add a good pair of riding boots to my closet.

Now, if I were a rich girl and money were no factor, I would love this pair from Tory Burch.

SWOON!!! I have seen other fashion bloggers do outfit of the days sporting these lovelies. Love the color and the gold detail. However, my wallet does not like the $495 price tag. And I am pretty sure that the husband would agree with my wallet. One day.

So as always, the bargainista that I am, I started scouting for a budget friendly pair that would do the job. Here are a few of my finds.
Enough online browsing, I'm ready to try some on! Hope to get a pair of my own sometime soon. Would be perfect to have a pair for our upcoming Fall Road Trip!

Learning as I go...

Alright. I wanted to just write a quick post about changes going on in my career.

If there are two things I've learn during this is 1) Let God be in control and 2) Patience is key. Shamefully, I struggle in BOTH areas. I will admit, that I tend to be the control freak and like to take my life and career in my hands and make things happen. I was like this growing up and it just grew exponentially once I entered the corporate world. I mean, this is the message that is given with respect to career performance and growth. One must own your career and make every necessary action to improve and not wait for some

Well, let me just say, that I did it ALL. For years (that's right years) I worked hard, I networked, I improved my skills and knowledge, I made myself VISIBLE... Yet, the door would be slammed in my face every time I applied for a job promotion. Heck, even for lateral job roles. One word. Discouraging. I did everything they tell you to do and still was finding myself stuck in the same rut I had been for years.

Then a few weeks ago, I was sharing with the ladies in my life group my job situation and asked that they pray for my career and for me, that I learn to put it in God's hands. I know God is omnipotent and knows all and I shouldn't doubt in His ability to make things happen. But still, I wrestle with giving up my control. So I asked them to keep me in their prayers and I would learn to be patient and let God be in control.

This morning I received a phone call from my director, whom in the past I've shared my desire and struggle to make the career change, telling me that she was able to work out a job tour for me in HR. This people, is huge! This will allow me to gain direct work experience in HR which has been the missing piece on my resume. Not only did this great opportunity open up but it should start at the beginning of next month! That is like two weeks from now, so I have a lot of preparation and transitioning of work to do.

God never ceases to amaze me.

I am so looking forward to this new chapter in my career and welcome the change. I may even be planning to celebrate by purchasing a cute notebook for note taking. Why not? ;)

Weekend Recap: Dogtoberfest and Sweetest Day

This weekend we went to the Dogtoberfest at Wiregrass Mall. It was so cute to see all the pups dressed up in their Halloween Costumes! However, Florida weather missed the memo that it is Fall because it was HOT. Needless to say, we did not last long there. Here are a few pics I took during our time there.

Since it was bright outside, I couldn't exactly see what I was shooting for the most part. Figures I didn't catch any dogs in their costumes. There were definitely a lot of creative ones too!

But I was able to get a couple shots of Gracie. When we first got there, she was going a little crazy, so I couldn't get her to stay still for a good picture.

She needed to be a hot dog for at least one year...

By this time, Gracie was winding down and not as active.

We made one lap through the mall and took the costume off of her because we knew she was hot. She was a trooper. By the time we were leaving, she was exhausted and didn't fuss to much on the drive back.

One last little surprise to my weekend. The Mr. remembered that it was Sweetest Day on Saturday and surprised me with these goodies.

Sweetest Day is celebrated more up north and I happen to know about it because I am from Ohio. Figures that I would forget about it and he would remember. He is too good to me. It brought a smile to my face :)

Life, lately.

Oh, am I happy it's Friday. #tgif

I know it's been a hot minute since I talked to you all so I want to provide a brief what's been going on in my world.

Earlier this week, I actually attempted posting a weekend recap because I had quite the fall festive weekend. Unfortunately, Blogger and I had a mini fall out and after many attempts at editing photos, I just deleted the post. For some unknown reason to me, I would try to click on the photo I just loaded to make the picture larger, and the little pop up that usually appears to resize would not happen for some of the pictures. Blogger can be so finicky some times. Ugh. End rant.

Last Weekend Recap
So, last weekend, on Friday the husband, pup and I went to Downtown Tampa for Oktoberfest. And boy was it a beautiful day to be outside!

The following day, I hosted my first Girls Night IN and had a Pumpkin Painting Party. The husband and I whipped up some fallish treats and drinks - Pumpkin Dip, Caramel Dip, Monster Munch, and Pumpkin Sangria. Thank you Pinterest. We had a great time painting, eating, and just being silly!

This Weekend Plans
We plan on getting Gracie dressed up in her Halloween costume and going to the Dogtoberfest.

How fun?! Who knows.... maybe we will end up with a another furbaby ;)

After that we will be driving to my parents place to celebrate my mother's birthday. We usually pick up one of the delicious cakes from Publix to celebrate the occasion but this time we are going to bake her a dessert. I'm thinking...

Recipe here.

I love Pumpkin Rolls and I know my mom does too. Hopefully, the recipe is a good one. I have had my share of following crappy recipes this week. Don't need another bust.

Might I just add, that we are doing a pretty good job so far at checking things off my Fall Bucket List. #Fall2013 #makingthingshappen

My Theme Song

I remember years back, a friend of mine and I had a conversation about our theme songs. Basically, if you were walking in to a room or down the side walk, this song would be playing in the background. Or it's a song you listen to during some period in your life that kinda speaks to how you are feeling.

Well, my theme song now is the new Britney song that came out this week. "Work B****". In case you didn't know already, I am a Britney Spears fan. Back during her Baby Hit Me One More Time days... through out the hot mess of Gimme Me More... to her Circus come back. All. The. Way.

You wanna hot body
You wanna Bugatti
You wanna Maseratti
You better work b*

You wanna Lamborghini
Sip martinis
Look hot in a bikini
You better work b*

You wanna live fancy
Live in a big mansion
Party in France
You better work b*

Not the biggest fan of the B word in almost every other sentence but still love it

If I want to be successful and, of course, "hot body" then I need to work hard for it. I need to not give up and push through the bumps that may come my way.

Navy and Burgundy

This Fall season I have been falling in love with the navy and burgundy combination. Target has especially been coming out with some adorable clothes in these colors that has made me want to go nuts shopping. As if I needed any more reasons to go shopping there.

Here are a couple of things I have been eyeing lately and may have already purchased...

After School Boy Blazer by Essie - One of the colors from their Fall 2013 Collection. I purchased it this past weekend.

In the Cable Car-Pool Lane by OPI - Part of the San Francisco Collection. Its not really true to color on the website. It looks more purple than burgundy in the picture, however, the description does say "burgundy". In person the color is gorgeous!

Merona Women's Scoop Neck Chiffon Top - This cute top I recently added to my wardrobe from Target. I actually wore it last week with a jeweled necklace from JCrew. Loved the combo!

Merona Women's Stripe Ponte Pencil Skirt - Navy - Another Target item again. This is on my "to buy" list.

Women's Embroidered-Icon Suede Flats - These are too cute to pass up.

Rugby Strip Paisley Border Scarf - Fall is not fall until you have a scarf in the mix. I really like the combination of the patterns as well.
