Friday Five | No. 9

ONE | Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Confession. I have watched this trailer more times than I'd like to admit but it makes me so happy! Hello, nostalgia. They FINALLY announced the premier date November 25 and I already marked it in my calendar. EEP!

TWO | How Christians Should Engage this Election

I heard about this article from Relevant Magazine while listening to the morning radio and read it once I was in front of a computer. I will be first to admit that I am not a huge follower of politics. I try to avoid it quite frankly because it can be overwhelming and frustrating to be honest, particularly thanks to social media. People can be downright ignorant and hurtful with the things that they share on these sites and it is sad to see the hateful words that are said. This article helped put into perspective how we as Christians can engage with others during this time and not lose sight of what is important.

THREE | New Lilly Print

Loving this new print - Multi Psychedelic Sunshine.

FOUR | MTV Classic

If you haven't heard, MTV announced that it will be rebranding it's channel VH1 Classic to MTV Classic. I'm pretty excited about this because they will be bringing back shows that I used to watch in the late 90's, early 2000's. One of the shows being Laguna Beach. Okay, this honestly is the only reality show that I've ever watched in it's entirety. Admittedly, I own the DVD collection for Seasons 1 & 2. While I could watch it whenever, it's just so much easier for me to DVR the episodes and watch whenever there is nothing else better to watch.

FIVE | National Lipstick Day

In honor of today being National Lipstick Day, a little inspiration for all you Girl Bosses.

Read | Three Books

I have been in a reading kick lately. I finished three books in the past month which is not usual for me.

The Go-Getter Girl's Guide by Debra Shigley

This was a good and easy read. While I think it's more beneficial to someone who is just starting in their career, I found it to be helpful and have a lot of takeaways for myself. She touches on various areas of one's career including networking, fashion, continued learning, etc. Provided real stories of Go-Getter Girls and how they made their career goals happen. There are activities where you can write and tips & tricks. I appreciated the golden nuggets that were sprinkled throughout the book.

Leadership and Self-Deception by The Arbinger Institute

This book I read as part of a book club where I work. So the way this book is written was a little weird for me. It's a professional development book but in story format which, honestly, I struggled with. The main concept of this book is about being "outside of the box", where you essentially put others first, instead of "in the box" where you put yourself first. It's a good message but I felt that it was repetitive.

The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau

I heard about this author and book one day while listening to my favorite podcast, The True Performance Show - by Ziglar. Kevin Miller and Tom Ziglar interviewed Chris and I was so intrigued by his message. His message is you don't have to live your life according to what everyone else says you should. You can live your dream if you put all your efforts towards it. His journey is a true example that this can be done. I finished this book in less than a week. Every time I read it, I felt motivated and wanted to read more. He made me feel that it's not too late to start working towards my dream and even it's a little bit at a time. Highly recommend this book!

Weekend | July 23 and 24

It's Monday, guys. I'm not ready for it. Fortunately, I am working from home today because the little one, Addie, has a vet appointment this morning. Working from home on Mondays always makes starting the work week a little easier.

This weekend wasn't too exciting. In between the blistering heat and crazy thunderstorms, I did some shopping/planning for the house.

Pretty Flowers

We stopped by Home Depot to look at edgers for our front yard and they had these beauties at the entrance. I thought they were so pretty! There are three different types of flowers in them (don't ask me the names). I was tempted to grab one to take but we had some other errands to make and I didn't want to leave them in the car to catch on fire in the heat. Slight exaggeration, but seriously.

Office Seating

We moved into our house back in October and I am still working on furnishing and decorating. The majority of the first floor in navy (shocking, I know) and grey tones. Our office has desk furniture but I still need chairs... and everything else. At Pier One, I saw an accent chair with the middle pattern which I love. I then started looking at material for other accent chairs to use for the desks, which are the two other fabrics shown in picture. I really like the animal print but the husband wasn't a fan. Boo!

Friday Five | No. 8

ONE | Rise by Katy Perry

Katy Perry released a new single for the Summer Olympics and I love it! Seeing all the different clips of athletes is getting me excited to watch the games.

TWO | Chip and Joanna Gaines lifestyle magazine

There is no denying that I am obsessed with these guys and LOVE watching Fixer Upper. Much of my home decor is inspired by an episode in one way or another. They recently announced that they will be launching a lifestyle magazine this fall. SIGN. ME. UP.

THREE | White Framed Corkboard

This beauty is scheduled to arrive today! I have had my eye on it for months now to put in my girl cave. When I finally decided to make the purchase, it was never at the Hobby Lobby that I shop at. I've gone multiple times specifically for this and nothing. So annoying. Finally decided I would just order it online and much to my surprise, it was 50%. It was a deal I could not miss.

FOUR | Brooke Griffin

I discovered this blog from a pin on pinterest. Her blog is so pretty and inspiring. It's been added to my fave's list. Thought I would share. You're welcome.

FIVE | Top Golf

Today, I will be heading going on a team outing to Top Golf. While I am looking forward to some time out of the office, I am not looking forward to the heat! As you can see in picture above, it is open and while there are fans above, I don't think that will help with this Florida heat. I may melt away. What I am excited about are the donut holes. They are amazing!

Weekend | July 16 and 17

It was another HOT weekend here in FL! This weekend, like every weekend during the summer, I remained indoors.

A friend of ours posted some pics of them grabbing some coffee at a shop in the Ybor area. The Mr. and I are always on the hunt for a good coffee shop so we decided to pay it a visit. Guys. This coffee shop had total Savannah coffee shop vibes and I was so excited! They had a small selection of sweets which we had this Red Velvet Cookie sandwich with cream cheese filling. Delicious!

"Back to School Bash" Supplies Drive

Our church is currently collecting school supplies donations for a local organization, Dream Center Tampa, which helps youth living in high-risk areas in Tampa. They are going to be hosting a Back to School Back and are in need of supplies. We all know my love for school supplies and the giddy feeling I get when I see Back to School signs at stores. When I heard about this drive, I did a little haul of supplies and took it to church. Seriously. all the cute supplies and locker decor had me wishing I was going back to school!

National Ice Cream Day

While scrolling through my feed on Sunday, I realized that it was National Ice Cream Day. A trip to Cold Stone Creamery was a must for the occasion. The Mr. and I shared a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Perfection in a waffle bowl. It was a sweet way to end off the weekend.

Five Friday | No. 7

ONE | 15 year Legally Blonde Anniversary

Guys. Legally Blonde came out FIFTEEN years ago.... Seriously? I watched it the other night on TV!? This is on my all time top fave movies. I love that Reese Witherspoon even did a little commemoration of the anniversary on her IG Feed. She's so cute! Then I found this buzzfeed article, if Elle Woods Quotes were motivational quotes that I thought were fun and wanted to share.

TWO | OOTD posts on IG

This past week and weekend, I've been really good about taking OOTD pictures. Not only have I received a lot of great feedback for for my outfits, it's helped me in figuring out to wear because I don't have to think too hard on what I wore earlier in the week. Another thing I've noticed since documenting what I wear is that I have a lot of navy clothing. I really need to try and branch out to other colors when I shop. Haha.

THREE | Figuring It Out: Age Ain't Nothing But a Number...Right?

I read this article the other day and I know that it's something that I have struggled with at times. Constantly putting pressure on myself about what I think or thought my life should be in my 30's. I will say that I've gotten better now in my 30's than I was in my 20's. But it has definitely taken a lot of work to get here and I still have more to go!

FOUR | Personal Brand Activity

This week I attended a Personal Branding meeting at my work. The speakers shared on what personal brand is, the importance of one's personal brand, and how to develop the personal brand you wish to have at work or even outside of work. During this session, we did an activity, where everyone writes their name on the bag and put it aside. Then everyone writes three descriptive words about a person on a notecard for five people. There was a list of words that we could use or come up with our own. The cards would then be placed in that person's bag. The receiver of the cards would then see how other people describe them and if it matches what he/she believes is what other's see them. I've done this exercise before years ago in another department and was curious to see the feedback I received in this one. For the most part, I was happy to see that the brand and image I wish to have is what other's see. I did chuckle at the "non-confrontational" note. Let's just say that I've wisened up to the appropriate way to handle situations at work.

FIVE | Put Your Dongle Away Video

This video had my laughing when I watched it. We have "dongles" at my work and I cringe every time I say the word. This video pretty much says it all.

Happy Friday!

Weekend | July 9 and 10

After my morning workout, I cleaned up and went to a nail salon opened up nearby my house and I went to go test it out. Okay, the Type A in me was so excited to see all the nail polish arranged by color and brand. Be still my beating heart. I believe I've found a new nail place.

The rest of the day was pretty low key. I went to a couple stores then back home. We have been having the normal thunderstorms in the second half of the day, so we stayed home and chilled.

After church, we went over to South Tampa Hyde Park for brunch at Piquant. I had the banana bread french toast which was delicious!

We walked around a bit and visited some of the shops. I love going to the Paper Source shop. It's a stationary lovers dream. The store front decor alone made me happy. I got a couple items that were on sale and have my eye on a flamingo lamp. Hopefully they will put that on sale soon!

When we got back home, we watched the final game for the UEFA 2016, Portugal vs France. I don't really follow soccer, the husband is more the soccer fan in our household, but I do like to watch bigger game events like this. I was rooting for the underdogs, Wales and Iceland, but were out during quarter and semi-finals. Btw, Iceland's fans were amazing! I wanted to be in the crowd with them!

While watching the game, I whipped out my painting supplies to paint this owl for my grandmother, who loves owls. She hasn't been doing to well healthwise lately, in the hospital right now, so I want to take her something to bring a smile to her face.

Friday Five | No. 6

ONE | Hello new planner!

This was the first week using my new planner. This is from the Day Designer line at Target. My previous planner was also from this same line but the smaller version of the one I have now. Seriously, these planners are a Type A's dream come true. It has a breakdown of schedule (this one in particular is half hourly), to-do checklist, and notes. #plannersnob I was a little hesitant going with the larger size but now that I've been using it all week, I am so happy that I did! I have so much more space to write and don't have to run over lines and areas.  Last weekend, I got some cute washi tapes to decorate and add some personal touches.

TWO | Pink Tea Kettle

Isn't she lovely? I've been eyeing her for some time now every time I go to Homegoods, which is pretty much weekly. While we have been big tea drinkers for years now, we have never owned a tea kettle. We would either fill up the mug with water and throw into microwave or pour water into a small pot to heat on stove top. I really have no idea why it's taken us so long to purchase one of these, but we finally did it.

THREE | #WhatIReallyReallyWant

This video surfaced on Facebook the other day and I will admit, I was originally drawn to it because it's the Spice Girls song and yes, I was a Spice Girl fan. #teamposh Putting that detail aside, the video is part of a movement to be the voice for all women and girls and tell World Leaders what we really want. You can learn a little more about it here.

FOUR | Career FOMO

I came across this article on Facebook the other day and it's definitely something I could relate to. Thanks to social media, especially Instagram, I constantly have the feeling that my life is not good enough and put too much pressure on myself to be like other people. This article makes some great points. What people put out on social media is usually the best parts of their lives. Most people aren't going to be letting out their dirty laundry for all to see. Emphasis on the most, because I know very well that there are some people that yearn for attention and lay it all out for all to see to get the sympathy of others. I think this article gives some great advice on how to manage the "fear of missing out" when scrolling through those posts on Instagram or Facebook.

FIVE | Exercise at your work desk

Another video that popped in my Facebook feed this week. While I'm not sure I would feel comfortable doing these exercises at my desk at work, I do agree that it's important to get some physical activity throughout the work day if you have a desk job. So many studies have been done on the effects of having a desk job has on one's health and the importance of getting some physical activity in our daily routine. I know when I first started my job right after college, I quickly gained that "freshmen 15" that I skipped during college. I went from being on my feet every day walking the campus from class to class and chasing kids at the daycare I work at to sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day. It catches up to you! I now try to make it to the gym at least four times a week to get some cardio in and I'm more conscious on what I eat. If you are like me, and don't feel comfortable with this whole exercise at your desk routine, some other options to get some activity throughout the work day are taking a walk during your lunch break, using the stairs at your office, or taking the long way to the restroom.

Blueberry Pie

Happy 4th to you!

The Mr. has been itching to bake lately. He watched an episode of Barefoot Contessa (yeah, he watches cooking shows every now and then) and Ina was baking a blueberry pie. That recipe happen to be in one of the cookbooks that we have so he baked it today. So good. We topped it with a scoop of vanilla coconut ice cream to have it a la mode. Delicious!

Now, I am prepping for the work week. Not ready to go back! But I am looking forward to using my new planner. Which I bought some cute little accessories and washi tape from Michaels to start decorating it. It's the little things :)
